In this step the shell’s flange is laid down the rest of the way. In the final step the entire surface of the shell is burnished with the flat side of a ‘duck-bill’ friction tool. This step smoothes out the spinning lines, flattens the surface and imparts the last bit of work hardening to the shell. The completed spun copper torchere will now be sanded or polished as is required by the particular finish that is being supplied.
